Healthy Relationships Workshops

The Healthy Relationships Workshops are part of SDVS’s vital early intervention, prevention and awareness work, and the ultimate goal is to stop dating violence before it starts. Dating violence often starts with teasing and name-calling but can quickly progress to coercive control, threats, stalking and physical assaults. These behaviours can be seen as part of a ‘normal’ relationship.

The Healthy Relationships Workshops are part of SDVS's vital early intervention, prevention and awareness work.

The workshop sessions are designed for young people aged 13+ and explore domestic violence and abuse through the context of ‘Healthy’ versus potentially ‘Unhealthy’ relationships. During the session the young people learn the prevalence of DVA in society and among their peer group. They also learn about the different types of abuse, what coercive control looks like in a teen relationship and digital abuse in the context of relationships.

We also discuss how to help a friend and what to do if they think they are in an unhealthy or abusive relationship. We provide support details for organisations that can help them with various issues, including DVA. There is also a Q&A opportunity provided where students can submit questions anonymously. The sessions encourage youth participation through anonymous, interactive methods and can be facilitated in schools, youth or community groups.
